Smart Cattle Monitoring with IoT Collars
Managing a large cattle herd across wide grazing land is hard to do manually. Farm operators had no way to know where each animal was, how it was behaving, or whether it was sick until it was too late. Routine inspections were too infrequent to catch early warning signs, straying animals often went unnoticed, and there was no system to track herd health patterns over time.
We developed a solar-powered wearable IoT collar for cattle that combines GPS tracking, 3-axis accelerometer-based activity monitoring, and body temperature sensing all in a rugged, waterproof, animal-safe enclosure. The collar charges itself in the field via solar panel, eliminating manual battery replacement. Data is transmitted over 4G LTE to a livestock cloud platform that shows each animal's live location on a farm map, activity and health trend charts, and geofence breach alerts for straying animals. The platform also flags anomalies such as reduced activity or abnormal temperature as early indicators of illness, enabling faster intervention.
Solar-powered design makes the collar fully self-sustaining no manual battery changes required.
GPS tracking gives operators a live view of every animal, with instant geofence alerts when one strays beyond the farm boundary.
Accelerometer based activity classification detects behavioral anomalies like reduced movement or abnormal rumination before visible illness symptoms appear.
The cloud dashboard aggregates individual and herd-level health trends, replacing subjective manual inspections with objective, continuous data.

Non stop
Continuous health and activity monitoring across the entire herd, flagging anomalies before visible illness symptoms appear.
Live GPS
Every animal's real-time location visible on the farm map, instant alerts the moment one breaches a geofence boundary.
Sustained
Self-charging collar operates continuously in the field no manual battery changes, no downtime across the herd.
