A commercial gas distribution operator was managing consumption and safety monitoring across multiple sites entirely through manual meter readings and paper records. There was no way to see real-time usage, spot abnormal consumption patterns that could indicate a leak, or generate reliable data for billing and demand planning. Safety alerts were slow, inconsistent, and completely dependent on someone being physically present at the site.
We built a full-stack cloud platform using the MERN stack (MongoDB, Express, React, and Node.js) to bring all sites into one unified monitoring system. IoT field devices at each site measure gas consumption, pressure, and leak sensor readings, transmitting data continuously via MQTT to the cloud backend. The platform automatically detects anomalous usage patterns that indicate potential leaks and triggers alerts in real time. A multi-site React dashboard gives operators, site managers, and billing teams role-based access to consumption trend charts, site comparison views, and automated billing exports in CSV and PDF format replacing paper records entirely.
Replacing manual meter readings with real-time IoT data gave the operator continuous visibility across every site. Automated anomaly detection turned undetected leak risk into instant, actionable alerts. MQTT-based sensor integration handled high-frequency data from multiple sites reliably, while role-based access ensured each team - operators, site managers, and billing saw only what was relevant to them. Automated CSV and PDF billing exports replaced manual data preparation entirely, making invoice generation faster and accurate across all cycles.
