AWS IoT & Azure IoT
Development

We build production IoT systems on AWS and Azure. From device provisioning and security to data pipelines and edge computing, we deliver the cloud infrastructure your connected products need to operate reliably at scale.

THE CHALLENGE IconTHE CHALLENGE

Choosing and Implementing the Right IoT Cloud Platform

Both AWS IoT Core and Azure IoT Hub are capable platforms, but they make different tradeoffs in device management, edge computing, pricing, and ecosystem integration. Picking the wrong one means migration pain down the road. Implementing either one poorly means security vulnerabilities, unreliable device connections, and data pipelines that break at scale. We have delivered production IoT deployments on both platforms across dozens of product programs, and we help teams make the right choice from day one.

PLATFORM COMPARISON Icon

PLATFORM COMPARISON

AWS IoT Core

Device Management

AWS IoT Core with device shadows for state synchronization. Rules engine routes messages to Lambda, S3, DynamoDB, or Kinesis based on MQTT topics and payload content.

Edge Computing

AWS IoT Greengrass deploys Lambda functions and ML models directly to edge devices. Local messaging between devices continues even when cloud connectivity drops.

Data Pipeline

Kinesis Data Streams for real-time ingestion, Kinesis Firehose for batch delivery to S3. Time-series storage with Timestream, analytics with Athena and QuickSight.

Pricing Model

Pay per message with tiered pricing. Connectivity charges based on minutes connected. Greengrass core devices priced per device per month with generous free tier.

PLATFORM COMPARISON

Azure IoT Hub

Device Management

Azure IoT Hub with device twins for desired and reported state management. Message routing to Event Hubs, Service Bus, Blob Storage, or custom endpoints with rich query filtering.

Edge Computing

Azure IoT Edge runs containerized workloads on gateway devices. Supports custom modules, Azure Stream Analytics at the edge, and Azure ML inference modules.

Data Pipeline

Event Hubs for high-throughput ingestion, Stream Analytics for real-time processing. Blob Storage and Azure Data Explorer for time-series analysis. Power BI for dashboards.

Pricing Model

Tiered editions (Free, S1, S2, S3) with daily message quotas. Device Provisioning Service billed per registration. IoT Edge runtime is free, compute costs are per module.

WHAT WE BUILD Icon

WHAT WE BUILD

End-to-End IoT Cloud Infrastructure

Device Provisioning at Scale

We implement zero-touch provisioning using X.509 certificates and fleet provisioning templates on AWS, or the Device Provisioning Service on Azure. Every device gets a unique identity and the right configuration the moment it connects.

Security Architecture

Least privilege IoT policies, certificate rotation workflows, and secure credential storage on devices. We design the full chain of trust from device identity through TLS connections to cloud-side authorization.

Data Pipelines and Storage

Kinesis or Event Hubs for ingestion, S3 or Blob Storage for raw telemetry, and time-series databases for operational queries. We build pipelines that handle thousands of messages per second with proper deduplication and ordering.

Monitoring Dashboards

Grafana dashboards connected to your time-series data, or custom web applications for fleet monitoring. Device health, connectivity status, telemetry visualization, and alerting for anomalies.

Edge Deployments

Greengrass or IoT Edge runtimes on gateway hardware. Local data processing, protocol translation for brownfield equipment, and store-and-forward when the cloud link is unavailable.

OTA Update Infrastructure

AWS IoT Jobs or Azure device management for firmware and configuration updates. Staged rollouts, automatic rollback on failure, and update status tracking across your entire fleet.

WHEN TO CHOOSE WHICH

Decision Criteria for Your IoT Platform

Your team already runs workloads on AWS

AWS IoT Core integrates directly with your existing VPCs, IAM roles, and AWS services. Staying in one cloud keeps operations simpler and reduces data transfer costs.

You have a Microsoft enterprise agreement

Azure IoT Hub pricing benefits from existing Azure commitments. Active Directory integration makes user management straightforward across your organization.

You need digital twin simulation

Azure Digital Twins provides a purpose-built modeling environment for complex physical systems. AWS requires more custom development for equivalent twin capabilities.

Your fleet exceeds 100,000 devices

Both platforms handle this scale well. The deciding factor becomes your team familiarity and which ecosystem your other services already live in.

You need local device-to-device messaging

Greengrass local messaging is mature and well-documented. IoT Edge achieves similar results through module-to-module communication within the edge runtime.

Budget is the primary constraint

AWS pay-per-message pricing works better for low-volume, bursty workloads. Azure tiered plans offer more predictable costs when you have steady message volumes.
